Telangana to Transform 25 Villages into Solar Villages: Bhatti Vikramarka

In a major push for sustainable energy, Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced the launch of a pilot project to convert 25 villages in the state into solar-powered hubs.

In a major push for sustainable energy, Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced the launch of a pilot project to convert 25 villages in the state into solar-powered hubs. The initiative, unveiled at an event on Saturday, is part of the state government’s broader vision to promote renewable energy and reduce dependency on conventional power sources.

Solar Villages: A Model for Sustainability

As part of the pilot project, rooftop solar panels will be installed for agricultural pump sets and residential homes in the selected villages. This move aims to provide a cleaner, greener, and more cost-effective energy solution, especially for farmers who rely heavily on electricity for irrigation. Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized that these villages would act as a model for scaling up similar initiatives across Telangana.

“Our goal is to make Telangana a leader in renewable energy. This project will not only cut electricity costs for farmers and households but also contribute to a sustainable future,” said Vikramarka.

Ambitious Energy Goals for 2035

During the event, the Deputy Chief Minister outlined the state’s ambitious renewable energy targets under its new energy policy. Telangana aims to generate 40,000 megawatts (MW) of clean energy by 2035, with solar power playing a key role in achieving this milestone.

The state has set intermediate targets to supply 22,448 MW of electricity by 2029-30 and 31,809 MW by 2034-35 to meet the growing power demands of Hyderabad, the Future City project, and new industrial developments.

“The transformation of rural areas into solar-powered hubs is just the beginning. Our focus is on ensuring adequate electricity supply to fuel Telangana’s rapid growth and development,” Vikramarka stated.

Power Sector Infrastructure Strengthening

The Deputy Chief Minister lauded the efforts of the state’s power department in maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply despite challenges. He cited a milestone achieved on March 8, when the state met a peak demand of 15,623 MW, showcasing the power department’s capacity to handle increasing energy needs.

Vikramarka also highlighted the government’s initiatives to modernize power infrastructure and enhance efficiency in electricity distribution to support the state’s expanding residential, agricultural, and industrial requirements.

Job Creation in the Power Sector

In addition to renewable energy initiatives, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the power sector workforce. At the event, appointment letters were distributed to 92 candidates for positions as Junior Assistants and Computer Operators in the Telangana Northern Electricity Distribution Company. Another 20 candidates were appointed to roles in the Telangana Electricity Supply Company.

“These appointments are part of our ongoing efforts to boost employment and ensure that our power sector has the skilled manpower needed to meet the state’s future energy demands,” he said.

A Step Towards Sustainability

Telangana’s solar village project is a pioneering initiative that aligns with the state’s larger vision of sustainability and energy independence. By focusing on renewable energy and rural development, the government aims to set an example for other states to follow.

With robust policies and strategic investments in renewable energy, Telangana is well on its way to becoming a leader in clean energy while ensuring a reliable and affordable power supply for its people.
