Telangana: Pending Applicants Will Also Get Ration Card, Government to Issue 40 Lakhs Cards

Hyderabad, Jan 19 (NSS): Telangana Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of misleading the public over the issue of ration cards, citing its failure to address food security during its decade-long rule. The minister lambasted the BRS for issuing fewer than 40,000 ration cards during its tenure and questioned its moral authority to criticize the Congress government’s efforts to benefit over 40 lakh individuals through new initiatives.

Pending Applications from the BRS Era

Revealing the extent of neglect, Reddy stated that the BRS left 12.07 lakh new ration card applications pending at Mee Seva centers and failed to process 18 lakh requests for adding family members to existing ration cards. An additional 10 lakh applications were received under the Congress-led Praja Palana program, indicating the growing demand for comprehensive food security measures.

To address these gaps, the Congress government plans to review all pending applications using data from caste surveys, socio-economic records, and submissions through Mee Seva centers and the Praja Palana program. Additionally, new applications will be accepted during Gram Sabhas from January 21 to 24 to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out.

Issuance of New Ration Cards

The Congress government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, is set to issue new ration cards starting January 26, providing relief to an additional 40 lakh individuals. Minister Reddy emphasized that the process would be fair, transparent, and inclusive. Furthermore, he reassured the public that no existing ration cards would be canceled as part of the initiative.

Currently, Telangana has 89.96 lakh ration cards, covering 281.7 lakh beneficiaries, which represents 73.63% of the state’s population. The minister affirmed the government’s commitment to extending food security to all deserving citizens.

Congress’ Commitment to Development

While addressing a gathering in Huzurnagar, Reddy reviewed preparations for Urs celebrations at the Jan Pahad Dargah and inspected the Jan Pahad Lift Irrigation Scheme. He also assessed the progress of housing colony projects in the region. Highlighting the Congress government’s developmental agenda, Reddy pledged to rectify the failures of the BRS regime and restore public trust in governance.

“The Congress government is determined to ensure food security for all eligible citizens and to address the long-standing neglect of essential services under the previous administration,” Reddy said, calling for public support in the government’s initiatives.

With the issuance of new ration cards and other development efforts, the Congress government aims to strengthen its commitment to welfare and inclusive governance across Telangana.
