Telangana CM to Lays Foundation for Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy will lay the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on Friday, marking a major milestone in public healthcare development. This ambitious project aims to transform Hyderabad’s medical infrastructure with a modern 2,000-bed government hospital spanning 32 lakh square feet at Goshamahal.
A Game-Changer in Healthcare Infrastructure
After a decade of neglect, this massive investment will bring cutting-edge medical facilities to Hyderabad. The new OGH will house 29 major and 12 minor operation theaters, robotic surgery capabilities, and a dedicated transplant theater. The project also prioritizes medical education and training, introducing 30 departments, including eight new super-specialty disciplines. Academic blocks for Nursing, Dental, and Physiotherapy colleges will further strengthen the institution’s role in training future medical professionals.
Advanced Facilities for Patients and Staff
Designed with patient comfort in mind, the hospital will include spacious reception areas, waiting halls, canteens, and resting zones. A modern waste management system, laundry services, and utilities will enhance hospital operations. To ensure seamless transportation, the campus will feature G+2 parking, improved roads with no-signal junctions and underpasses, and a dedicated helipad for critical patient transport and organ transplant needs.
Strategic Coordination and Land Utilization
The project reflects strong interdepartmental collaboration, with land shared between the Hospital and Police Department to accommodate both medical and law enforcement requirements. Essential services such as power supply, fire safety, and waste management are integrated into the planning. A government school currently on the site will be relocated to facilitate the construction.
Revitalizing a Century-Old Legacy
Established in 1919 by the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, OGH has a rich history, dating back to its origins as Afzalgunj Hospital in 1866. Once catering to over 3,000 outpatients daily, the current 7.5 lakh square feet facility became insufficient for Hyderabad’s growing population. Legal and heritage concerns delayed the hospital’s redevelopment, but under CM Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the modernization is finally taking shape.
With a total area of 26 acres for the hospital and an adjacent 11-acre Police Department campus, the new OGH is set to become a premier healthcare institution, redefining public medical services in Telangana.
This initiative signals a new era in Hyderabad’s healthcare landscape, ensuring state-of-the-art medical facilities for generations to come.
