Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Bangladeshi National Arrested by Police

In a shocking incident, the Mumbai Police have arrested a Bangladeshi national, Shariful Islam Shehzad, who was living under the false identity of Bijoy Das, for allegedly breaking into Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence and attacking him during a burglary attempt. The accused was apprehended on Sunday in Thane, Maharashtra, after an extensive investigation.

The Investigation

Following the attack, the Mumbai Police promptly formed 30 dedicated teams to trace the suspect. The investigation commenced with the analysis of CCTV footage from Saif Ali Khan’s building, which captured the accused leaving the premises shortly after the incident.

Extensive CCTV Scanning

Police examined hours of CCTV footage across Mumbai and eventually tracked the suspect to DN Nagar in Andheri. He was spotted getting off a motorbike, which the police traced back to its registered owner.

Local Intelligence Inputs

Simultaneously, local intelligence inputs led investigators to a rented accommodation in Koliwada, Worli. The police discovered that Shehzad had been living there with three other individuals.

Tracking and Arrest

Using information provided by the residents of the accommodation, including Shehzad’s name, phone number, and other details, the police traced his location through his phone signals. He was finally found hiding in a thicket along a deserted road in Thane, where he was surrounded and arrested.

The Accused’s Background

Authorities revealed that the 30-year-old accused had entered India illegally and assumed the identity of Bijoy Das. He reportedly arrived in Mumbai five to six months ago and found employment through a housekeeping agency.

False Identity and Building Entry

During questioning, Shehzad admitted that he was unaware that the residence belonged to Saif Ali Khan. He claimed to have accessed the building using the rear staircase and air-conditioning ducts.

Official Statements

Dikshit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Crime Branch, confirmed that there is substantial evidence suggesting the accused is a Bangladeshi national. “He does not possess valid Indian documentation, and our seizures further indicate his foreign nationality,” Gedam said.

The DCP added that Shehzad will be presented in court, where the police will seek custody for further investigation.

Current Status

Shehzad is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the extent of his activities in Mumbai and any potential links to other crimes.

This case highlights the challenges of monitoring illegal immigration and underscores the importance of vigilance in high-security residential areas.
