Hyderabad: In response to mounting concerns over encroachments on temple lands in Jagadgirigutta, HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath conducted a detailed field inspection on Saturday. The visit, which focused on illegal occupations of temple properties and nearby lakes, has sparked optimism among locals who have long been demanding action.

Inspection Highlights: Govindaraju Swamy Temple Lands in Focus

During his visit, Commissioner Ranganath inspected the lands surrounding the Govindaraju Swamy temple, a site of spiritual and cultural significance in the Qutbullapur constituency. Complaints from the temple priest, Narahari, and community members revealed unauthorized constructions and occupations on temple-owned lands, ponds, and plots. The encroachment of Perki Lake, a key waterbody in the area, was also highlighted as a growing concern.

The Commissioner reviewed video evidence provided by the temple priest and locals, showcasing illegal activities. Acknowledging the severity of the issue, Ranganath assured residents of immediate action to safeguard the temple’s property and nearby public lands.

Action Plan Against Encroachments

Commissioner Ranganath outlined a firm strategy to combat post-2024 encroachments, emphasizing that any illegal activities following HYDRA’s formation in July 2024 would face strict legal action. He condemned the misuse of temple lands under the guise of caste associations and unauthorized construction of plots for sale.

To address the issue effectively, HYDRA will employ advanced tools, including Google Maps, to identify encroachments. Notices will be issued to violators, and non-bailable charges will be filed against those found guilty of illegal activities. Ranganath also announced that the new HYDRA police station, expected to become operational within 15 days, would bolster enforcement efforts.

Community Involvement and Support

Commissioner Ranganath called for active community participation in protecting temple lands and other public properties. He encouraged locals to form two committees: one to oversee temple land protection and another to focus on preserving Perki Lake. The committees will regularly update the police on encroachment activities through WhatsApp groups, ensuring transparency and prompt action.

A community meeting has been scheduled for next Wednesday to further discuss the encroachment issues and gather evidence from locals. Ranganath emphasized the importance of collective efforts in tackling these challenges and reassured residents of his commitment to resolving the matter.

Special Rituals and Community Response

The visit concluded with special rituals at the Venkateswara Temple, where priests performed prayers and blessed the Commissioner for his proactive efforts. Residents welcomed Ranganath’s intervention, expressing hope that his actions would lead to the restoration and preservation of temple lands and public resources.

A Step Toward Accountability

The HYDRA Commissioner’s visit to Jagadgirigutta marks a significant step in addressing encroachments on temple lands. By prioritizing post-2024 violations and involving the local community, Ranganath aims to create a transparent and accountable system to protect religious and public properties.

The inspection has been widely praised by locals, who now look forward to decisive actions that will put an end to illegal activities and safeguard their cultural heritage.
