Hyderabad: The city of Hyderabad witnessed four separate fire incidents within the past 24 hours, causing widespread panic but fortunately no loss of life. The most recent fire broke out on Friday afternoon at a wood warehouse near pillar number 111 under the Gudimalkapur police station limits.
The fire, which quickly spread to an adjacent mechanic shed, alarmed locals as the shed reportedly housed gas cylinders that could have triggered a devastating explosion. However, the swift response of fire department officials averted any major disaster, and the blaze was brought under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is ongoing.
Earlier on the same day, a fire was reported at a graveyard on Puranapul Road. Flames spread to nearby electric cables and banners on a pole, creating additional hazards. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire might have been sparked by trash burning or a discarded cigarette.
Friday morning also witnessed a major fire in a building on Falaknuma Road, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Although no injuries were reported, property damage is being assessed.
In yet another incident, a tiffin center in the Nizampet area of Bachupally caught fire, reportedly due to an LPG leak. Panic spread among locals, but prompt action by authorities ensured no casualties. At the time of the incident, a few individuals were inside the eatery but managed to escape unharmed.
City’s Alarming Fire Trends
Hyderabad recorded approximately 2,500 fire accidents in 2024, while Telangana reported a total of 7,600 incidents, resulting in over 200 fatalities and property losses worth ₹822 crore, according to fire department officials.
The causes of these fires have largely been attributed to negligence, faulty wiring, overuse of electrical appliances, and unsafe storage of flammable substances. Officials highlighted the lack of awareness about fire safety among residents, with many getting trapped in lifts during emergencies. Non-compliance with safety protocols, including the absence of fire extinguishers and emergency exits in buildings, further exacerbates the situation.
Authorities are urging the public to prioritize fire safety measures and adhere to building codes to prevent such incidents in the future.
