In a major step towards democratizing access to cutting-edge AI tools, Google has announced a year-long free subscription to its premium AI Pro plan for eligible college students across India. This initiative, which is valued at ₹19,500 per year, aims to boost AI literacy and digital skill development in one of the tech giant’s fastest-growing markets.
Free Access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and More
The AI Pro plan offers students full access to Google’s most advanced AI tools, including the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, a powerful research assistant, real-time voice interaction through Gemini Live, and video generation via Veo. Students will also receive 2TB of Google Cloud storage, usable across Gmail, Drive, and Photos.
In addition, students can use NotebookLM, a smart research assistant that helps summarize documents and generate citations, and Deep Research, which integrates Gemini capabilities into Google Search.
Eligibility and Verification via SheerID
To claim the offer, students must meet the following conditions:
Be 18 years or older
Be enrolled in a recognized Indian college or university
Verify their eligibility via the SheerID platform, a global verification service
Use a personal Gmail ID, not an institutional one
Verification must be completed before the offer deadline of September 15, 2025.
Payment Method Required but No Immediate Charges
While a valid payment method is needed to activate the free plan, Google assures users that they will be notified before any charges occur once the 12-month period ends. This gives students the option to cancel their subscription before any billing takes place.

According to a Google-Kantar study, 95% of Indian students using Gemini reported feeling more confident in their daily lives. The study also revealed that 75% of Indians are seeking a daily collaborator to help them grow and excel—reinforcing the potential impact of this initiative.
