Dalit Woman’s Brutal Murder in Ayodhya Sparks Outrage, Political Uproar

The disrobed body of a 22-year-old Dalit woman was discovered outside Sahnawa village

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh – The disrobed body of a 22-year-old Dalit woman was discovered outside Sahnawa village in Ayodhya on Saturday, February 1, triggering massive outrage across the state. The victim’s family alleged that she was brutally assaulted, with her eyes missing and body covered in deep wounds, fractures, and multiple cuts. They claimed her limbs were tied with ropes, and villagers who transported the body noticed a fractured leg.

According to police, a missing report was filed on Friday after the woman was reported missing. Circle Officer Ashutosh Tiwari stated that an autopsy report would confirm the allegations of gang rape. A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing.

Faizabad MP Breaks Down, Vows to Resign If Justice Is Denied

Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad broke down in tears during a press conference on Sunday, February 2, vowing to resign if justice was not served. In a viral video, the Samajwadi Party leader is seen inconsolable, with fellow politicians attempting to comfort him.

“Let me go to Delhi—I will raise this in Lok Sabha and bring it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attention. If I fail to get justice, I will resign. This is our collective failure. How will history remember us?” said Prasad. He also invoked religious sentiments, asking, “Lord Ram, Mother Sita, where are you?”

Political Leaders Slam BJP Government, Demand Justice

The horrific incident has ignited political backlash, with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi launching sharp attacks on the Uttar Pradesh government.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi called the murder “heartbreaking and shameful,” alleging that the victim’s family’s pleas had been ignored for three days. “For how long will families continue to suffer like this? The anti-Bahujan BJP rule, especially in Uttar Pradesh, is leading to rising atrocities against Dalits,” he said, demanding severe punishment for the culprits and strict action against negligent police officers.

Priyanka Gandhi also condemned the incident, calling it an example of “BJP’s Jungle Raj.” She highlighted that the woman had gone missing after attending a religious event, yet the police failed to act. “Such cruel incidents shame humanity. The UP government has become synonymous with atrocities on Dalits,” she said, demanding accountability from both criminals and officials.

Growing Public Anger, Calls for Action

The case has sparked widespread anger, with activists and civil society groups demanding swift justice. Social media has been flooded with posts calling for stringent punishment, while protests are being planned across Uttar Pradesh.

The Uttar Pradesh government is under increasing pressure to ensure a fair investigation and prevent the case from meeting the same fate as other incidents where justice was delayed or denied.

As the autopsy report awaits confirmation, the question remains: Will justice be served, or will this be another case of impunity in a state grappling with rising crimes against Dalits?
