Bandh Called in Hyderabad Over New Osmania Hospital Construction in Goshamahal

Tensions escalated in Hyderabad’s Goshamahal area as a bandh was called on Friday to protest the construction of the new Osmania General Hospital.

Hyderabad: Tensions escalated in Hyderabad’s Goshamahal area as a bandh was called on Friday to protest the construction of the new Osmania General Hospital. The shutdown was organized by the Goshamahal Parirakshana Samiti, which has strongly opposed the proposed project, citing concerns over traffic congestion, impact on local businesses, and environmental consequences.

Security Tightened in Goshamahal

In anticipation of protests, a large number of police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Adding to the tensions, local residents and activists threatened to obstruct Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy from attending the foundation-laying ceremony of the hospital.

Authorities responded by placing Goshamahal Parirakshana Samiti president Purushottam under house arrest ahead of the planned demonstrations.

BJP Corporators Oppose the Project

The controversy surrounding the hospital construction also played out at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) general meeting, where BJP corporators staged protests. The BJP has been vocal in demanding that the hospital be built behind the existing Osmania General Hospital rather than at Goshamahal.

Despite the opposition, the state government has remained firm on its decision, and as per schedule, CM Revanth Reddy is set to lay the foundation stone for the new hospital on Friday.

The bandh and protests highlight growing discontent among locals, who argue that the new hospital’s location could lead to long-term disruptions in the area. Meanwhile, the state government maintains that the project is crucial for improving healthcare infrastructure in Hyderabad.

With tensions running high, all eyes are on Goshamahal as the situation unfolds.
